1 and 6 Zeros: The details

Episode 1 (13-03-22)

The team playing today consists of Laura, Steve and Stella. They are from Sunderland and Durham respectively. After a banter sesh, the very very straightforward rules are explained. There's 7 questions, each with an amount of answers corresponding as to how many zeros are left in play, meaning the team starts off with 7 answers to pick from.

There's a single lifeline in play, you can swap the question, at the cost of the value of the coin dropping from a full pound to eventually just a penny (Which would lower the top prize to £10,000).

So this is how it begins:

Question 1:

In which 1997 film does Will Smith play a policeman who is recruited to a secret organisation that monitors extraterrestrial activity on Earth? No lifeline needed, they knew it was Men in Black. They've won £1.

Question 2:

In 2017, Jacinda Ardern first took office as prime minister of which country? No lifeline needed here either, they've gone for New Zealand ahead of the break. And yep, that's correct. £10 in the pocket.

Question 3:

Who wrote the 2021 novel 'Her Heart for a Compass'?

This is the first time a swap came into play. The top prize drops to £500,000 and they get a new question. They would've gone for Sarah, Duchess of York, which unfortunately was the right answer.

Drag artist Shane Jenek, who won 'Celebrity Big Brother' in 2018, performs under what stage name?

They haven't got a clue, but have heard of Courtney Act, so they're risking a zero by going for it here. Thankfully, they are correct, and are up to £50 (although it's still being shown as £100 instead).

Question 4:

Ahead of this question, one team member has to go to the lobby and can still be talked to, but can no longer influence the answers given. Steve is the one who gets sent away and gets an 'in memorian'-style montage. Hhhhuh. Which of these places began its year as the UK City of Culture in May 2021? Stella saw this one on the news. She's going for Coventry, and yep, that's another break, of course. Once again though, it's correct. Up to £500 now.

Question 5:

Who did Mark Selby defeat in the final of the 2021 World Snooker Championship? They aren't too sure. Steve is losing his mind behind the scenes because Stella wants to risk it by going for Shaun Murphy, and that's what she ends up doing. Thankfully, her intuition played out okay, and that's £5,000 in the pocket.

Question 6:

Another contestant goes to the lobby. This time, it's Laura. Stella's on her own.

Which of these films was nominated for ten Oscars but failed to win any? She doesn't get a proper inkling and is swapping. Top prize is now £200,000. Her answer of Gravity was wrong, it was actually American Hustle. New question is as follows.

In which organ of the human body would you find the islets of Langerhans?

Stella has a strong gut feeling that it is the pancreas they are looking for, and as it turns out, it's the right answer. £20,000 is in the pocket.

Question 7:

Which of these musicians was born in the 1930s?

Since they've already guarenteed 20 grand, and she doesn't wanna swap anymore, she's going for what she has thought first off, which is Tom Jones. Laura and Steve return to see how it ends. Unfortunately, that is where she's wrong for the first time. It was actually Tina Turner.

Laura, Steve and Stella still leave with a solid £20,000.

Episode 2 (20-03-22)

The intro almost feels like a spoof on Deal or No Deal's. 22 boxes, 'this is 1 dollar', tomato, tomato. It's up to Troy, Frank & Bruce (from London) to wad through a handful of questions across a very, very long hour and win big this time. Troy is a drag queen, Frank and Bruce are a couple, they wanna open a queer barbershop, this is 99% gonna go wrong because God forbid queer people be happy. Let's see.

Question 1:

Whose autobiography is called 'Camp David'? They all follow Troy's gut feeling of David Walliams, and that wins them the £1.

Question 2:

Which basketball legend stars in the 2021 film sequel 'Space Jam: A New Legacy'? They knew this one before the question even came up! It's LeBron James. £10 won.

Question 3:

First broadcast in 2018, which of these podcasts is co-hosted by comedians James Acaster and Ed Gamble? They only know it is not My Dad Wrote A Porno, so they decided to swap, and the top prize drops to £500k. Off Menu was the correct answer, they would've been wrong as they'd have picked Private Parts.

In 2012, the remains of King Richard III were discovered in which city?

They knew this one by going there on a 2012 trip and looking at said remains. It's Leicester. That's £50.

Question 4:

Frank chose to leave the game this time.

Which of these cocktails traditionally contains vodka?

Bruce is very adamant it's Espresso Martini. Troy isn't so sure about it, though they still go for it. Bruce was right. £500 in the pocket.

Question 5:

Which of these singers was widely known as the 'First Lady of Song'? They were kinda amusing the idea of Etta James and Billie Holiday, but not enough to play on, so they swap. Frank joins in for Billie Holiday, which was incorrect ('twas Ella Fitzgerald), so a good choice was yet again made.

Which TV programme won the award for Best Mini-Series at the 2021 BAFTAs?

They are going to swap again after dubbing over I May Destroy You and Bridgerton a bunch, while Frank thought it may have been Normal People. Troy would've been right with I May Destroy You. We're delving into lower and lower territory here with £100k being the new top prize...

Which of these people served as Director of Public Prosecutions before becoming an MP?

A little bit of deduction got them to Keir Starmer, they lock it in, and *finally* after two swaps, they've entered the 4 digit zone with the correct answer.

Question 6:

Nervous ol' Troy decides to leave.

Which is the only team to have won every Rugby World Cup final that they have appeared in?

Immediate swap. Bruce thought it could've maybe been South Africa, and uhhh... it was. They are back down to the 3 digit zone. This isn't gonna end well, is it.

Which of these Beatrix Potter title characters is usually shown not wearing clothes on the front cover of their book?

Troy thinks it may be Benjamin Bunny behind the scenes. Bruce defies the odds and actually goes for Squirrel Nutkin. Cut back to lobby and they can't even look at their risky friend/husband. Coming back after their break, Troy can count his goddamn lucky stars, cuz he somehow got it right. £5,000 has been secured... for now.

Question 7:

Which of these animals is NOT native to South America? Bruce thinks a toucan is a cat from Europe(?), but then thinks an aardvark is a desert animal. Regardless, he swaps and drops to the second lowest meagre £20,000 top prize. He should've had the same confidence he had earlier and played, cuz yep, aardvark was right.

The name of the character played by Quentin Tarantino in 'Reservoir Dogs' is Mr... who?

He's seen the movie a long time ago. The only one that rings a bell is Mr. Brown. He has to swap for the final time, much quicker than the previous time, which just makes the previous decision really frustrating. To add insult to injury, the two lobby sitters also thought it was Mr. Brown, and lo, it was the right answer. I think i'm starting to see why people don't like this show.

Oooookay, for the AMAZING PRIMETIME PRIZE of 10 grand, here's the actual final question.

How many spikes are there on the crown of the Statue of Liberty in New York?

This question is so much harder compared to when it appeared on Millionaire, but Bruce does manage to eventually follow his gut and realize that the crown is not very symmetrical at all. He goes for seven. Relief follows as they DO manage to get that right and get that minimum reward for their work, and hey, they didn't get a question wrong, that's gotta count for something.

So in the end, Troy, Frank and Bruce leave with £10,000. Here's hoping this 'rollercoaster ride' is gonna yield something a bit spicier soon.

Episode 3 (27-03-22)

Benji, Antonio and Leon are the next ones to attempt to break the record of 'fastest way to fall asleep' live on television in March of 2022. Let's get this over with.

Question 1:
